Visiting
the Belgian Coast
If you prefer the coast and a seaside resort you should visit
De Haan it is an enchanting beach resort and a picturesque village,
there are sand dunes on either side of the village which are
nature reserves.
There is a good coastal tram service calling at most of the
seaside resorts, this can make for an enjoyable day out enabling
you to go from one resort to another or stop off at one that
you like.
It is worth
visiting Knokke; it has exclusive shops and art galleries.
You can have
a drink at one of the café bars
or relax on the beach after going around the shops! Knokke is
about a one hour tram ride from Ostend and is very chic and cosmopolitan.
Nieuwport
is a modern beach front resort, there is a long sandy beach
to enjoy, you
can rent cycles and ‘machines on wheels’ for
both children and adults to ride up and down the promenade. There
are bars and cafes when you feel the need for refreshment, shops
for you to browse around.
De Panne is another seaside town and the closest to France.
Promenade and beach are both fantastic along with the buzz of
the atmosphere on a summer evening. Visit the Oasis Cocktail
Bar, sit outside and chill as the world goes by.
If you are looking for a lively late night out visit Ostend,
which everyone knows. A superb range of night clubs, bars and
discos for your entertainment in this city make it a popular
destination with younger people, both tourists and Belgians alike.
Summer is
a great time to enjoy Belgium’s coast, there
are over 40 miles of sandy beaches and dunes to explore. There
are many guest houses, hotels and self-catering possibilities
along Belgium’s coastal resorts; even camping, which is
very popular. It does get busy in summer so book your trip and
accommodation early if you plan a holiday or a short break.
